Oversight & Legal Compliabce

As an Independant School, children enrolled in Comeragh Wilderness Academy are registered with Tusla’s Alternative Education Assessment & Registration Service (AEARS) in line with the Education (Welfare) Act 2000, Section 14.

What this means for your family

  • Enrolling your child here fully satisfies your legal obligation to ensure your child receives a “certain minimum education.”

  • Tusla treats your child as being ‘in school.’ Once registered through AEARS, your child is placed on Tusla’s statutory register, the same register that covers all children who are not in recognised schools.

  • Tusla is responsible for the regulation of provision for education in Independant schools. Its function is to carry out an assessment of the educational provision for children, in order to determine if a child can be placed on the statutory register of children educated in an Independant School.

  • Tusla independently assesses and may periodically review the education provided here, giving you the assurance that an outside authority is monitoring standards.
  • We provide all necessary documentation and curriculum support so that your application to AEARS is straightforward, and we cooperate fully with Tusla in every review.

In plain terms

By enrolling your child with us, you are:

  • Meeting Tusla’s legal requirements for school-age education.
  • Ensuring your child is on Tusla’s statutory register.
  • Providing your child with an education programme that Tusla recognises as meeting the minimum standard.
